No-exam life insurance

What kinds of applicants can get immediate decisions, how the process works, and what happens if you need an exam.

Many carriers today use accelerated underwriting: for applicants in certain age and coverage ranges, they make a decision based on your application, prescription records, driving history, and other information, without ordering a paramedical exam. Approvals sometimes come through within a day. Every quote on this site notes whether the carrier will require an exam, may ask for one, or will skip it for this product.

What it changes

Skipping an exam is not the same as skipping underwriting. Your application will be checked for accuracy, and policies based on misstatements can be challenged in the first two years. If the carrier's records turn up questions, they may still request an exam or lab tests; at that point you can choose to proceed or not.

Who tends to qualify

Usually people under age 60 or so, seeking amounts within the carrier's fast-track limits, with uncomplicated health history and no tobacco use for a year or longer. If you have recent blood work from a doctor visit, some carriers will use that instead of ordering a new exam.

If the carrier does request an exam, it is typically a 20- to 30-minute appointment with a paramedical professional who comes to your home or workplace in the Pomona area, at no charge to you. For applicants in good health, exam findings often result in a better rate, so it can work in your favor.
